July 23rd 2009, three inches of rain, 68 mile per hour winds….not exactly what we had dreamed of when we were envision our Block Island wedding.  But as things go and everyone says “you can’t control the weather, so don’t worry about it!”  Well we headed the advice of those many before us and embraced the ‘hurricane like weather’ and decided to have the best day of our lives!  And the best day of our lives it was!
  The next morning we woke up to blue skies and a gaggle of family members wanting to rehash the previous day’s events…you would think that the main topic would be the never ending rain, or the pond that accumulated UNDERNEATH the reception tent that we decided to skim board over…but no, the main topic of conversation was not the epic like weather conditions but….THE FOOD!!!  I heard more nice complements out of the mouths of hard to please Aunties that I have NEVER heard anything positive from.  My NYC family who is used to upscale city venue weddings were claiming that the raw bar was the best, most never ending display of seafood that they had ever seen!  Everyone was arguing over which appetizer was the best…the lobster roll sliders, tuna tar tar spoons, or the shot of shrimp and corn chowder!
  As the bride I was impressed with the fact that although the weather was so bad…nothing skipped a beat!  There were four cooks grilling outside in the rain. They even grilled every individual marshmallow for the smores that I thought were a lost cause!   The waitstaff were sopping wet, but with smiles on their faces.  The food was flawless, the servers were unfazed, and everything was beautiful!
  Anyone can pull off a wedding on a beautiful day on Block Island…the Island does it for you…but only the best can make a miserable, windy, rainy day into the the magic that Kimberly and Norman and the rest of the Beachead Catering created for us!
